“Shepherd the flock of God that is among you, exercising oversight, not under compulsion, but willingly, as God would have you; not for shameful gain, but eagerly; not domineering over those in your charge, but being examples to the flock.”

Birthday:  May 21st.

Education:  Bachelors degree from Arizona State University in Community Recreation.  Masters degree in Religious Education from Southwestern Theological Seminary, Ft. Worth, Texas.

Ministry Philosophy:  Pastor Gary’s ministry philosophy can best be summed up in I Thessalonians 2:7-8 and 11-12;

II Corinthians 12:15

“But we were gentle among you, like a nursing mother taking care of her own children.  So being affectionately desirous of you, we were ready to share with you not only the gospel of God but also our own selves, because you had become very dear to us.”

“For you know how, like a father with his children, we exhorted each one of you and encouraged you and charged you to walk in a manner worthy of God, who calls us into His own kingdom and glory.”

“I will most gladly spend and be spent for your souls.”

Pastor Gary has always approached leadership simply as this:

1. He models ministry.

2. He does ministry alongside others.

3. He then lets others lead the ministry.

Favorite Verse:  “It is God who works in you, both to will and to work for His good pleasure.”  Philippians 2:13 (ESV)

What I Love About The Heart of Mesa:  “I love the diversity of people God has placed in this body.  I love our willingness to reach out to all people with the love of Jesus Christ.  I love the “servant heart” of our people.  I love the fact that we go beyond our comfort zones to reach out to people.  I love the fact that many have come here and found healing for their souls and others have found refreshment for their souls.”

What would you say to somebody interested in our church:  “The Lord is in this place, so come join us as we interact with the Lord, His Word, His people and a lost world.”
