Refocusing on God’s Word

When taking any kind of trip, it is always best to know where you should be going. If you are going on a road trip, it would be best to map out the best route to take. When you go on a hike, it is important to have a map or compass to ensure you do not get lost. In order to arrive at the destination, you need to make sure you know where you are going.

The same can be true for all of life. Many times we wander through life simply going through the motions. We are creatures of habit and many times fall into the same routine in life without even thinking about it. In these times we lack purpose and simply wander through our daily lives. We can feel lost at times wondering what we are really doing in life.

As followers of Christ, we need to make sure we know where we are going. In order to know, we have to be engaged in God’s Word daily. Through the Bible, God shows us where we should go. The psalmist wrote, “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path. I have sworn an oath and confirmed it, to keep your righteous rules.” (Psalm 119:105-106)

God’s Word shows us what God desires for us. It gives us standards by which we should be living our lives. It is full of examples of how to live our lives and examples of what we should not be doing. When we truly dive into God’s Word on a daily basis, we begin to understand what God wants for us and from us.

As we move forward in 2019, it is my hope that we develop a deeper hunger for God’s Word. It is my prayer that we will spend time daily focusing on what God says to us through the pages of Scripture. When we do that, we begin to find purpose and direction for our lives.
