Week 2 – Preparing to Move Out

Text: Acts 1:12-26

Sermon notes:

Coming together in unity (v. 12-14)

  • the apostles returned to Jerusalem
  • everyone was unity in prayer

Making hard decisions (v. 15-22)

  • Peter takes charge
  • Peter says Judas’ betrayal had to happen
  • Peter suggests to add to the apostles

Replacing leadership (v. 23-26)

  • two men are presented – Joseph and Matthias
  • they prayed for guidance

Big Idea of the Message: We should look to fill voids in leadership by praying for God’s guidance.

Application Point: Is God asking me to fill a void in the church body?

Questions to Ponder :

  1. What is one thing that stood out to you from this week’s message?
  2. Why should prayer be the focal point before acting?
  3. Why do you think Peter stood up and took the lead in the situation?
  4. Both Peter and Judas betrayed Jesus in some way. What is the difference between the two?
  5. What is the importance of adding an apostle to replace Judas?
  6. What is important about how the apostles prayed to select Judas’ replacement?
