Palm Sunday Devotion

Text: Luke 19:28-44

Question: Have I traded righteousness for self-righteousness.

Sermon Ideas and Talking Points:

Obedience displayed (v. 28-35a)

  • Jesus head to Jerusalem for the last time
  • The disciples given a “weird” task
  • The colt is brought to Jesus

Responding with praise (v. 36b-40)

  • The disciples honor Jesus
  • The disciples praise God for Jesus’ works

Responding with hardened hearts (v. 41-44)

  • Pharisees what disciples rebuked
  • Jesus refuses to rebuke them
  • Jesus weeps over a missed opportunity

Big Idea: It’s possible to be close to religion, and yet still miss God.

Questions to Ponder:

  1. What is one thing that stood out to you from this week’s message?
  1. How did Jesus fulfill prophecy in this passage?
  1. Why do you think Jesus cried when He looked at Jerusalem?
  1. What caused the Pharisees to miss what was happening?
  1. Do you ever feel like you might be missing God’s work? Why?
  1. How can you stay connected to God, even when there are so many distractions around you?
